CHANTILLY, VA – John Guevara, Republican candidate for Sully District on the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors has delivered an invitation to his opponent, Democrat Kathy Smith, to participate in several debates across the district. The invitation calls on the Smith campaign to collaborate with Guevara’s team to coordinate at least three debates in each of Sully’s major communities to provide voters with maximum accessibility to the candidates.
In his letter, which is attached, Guevara writes, “I strongly believe that the voters need to be informed on the issues and the candidates who are running to represent them on the Board of Supervisors. As such, I believe it would be wise for us to have several forums where Sully residents can listen to the candidates and make an informed decision in November.”
Since John Guevara mailed his invitation, Kathy Smith has announced that she will be skipping a debate hosted by the Dulles Area Chamber of Commerce. Upon hearing the news, Guevara’s Campaign Manager Sean McCort had this to say, “It’s disappointing to say the least. John has new ideas and an exciting message that voters respond to. I suppose Kathy’s unwillingness to provide Sully’s voters an opportunity to make an informed decision after a public debate is proof that she’s out of touch with Sully District and lacks the vision to represent Sully on the Board of Supervisors, she doesn’t want this pointed out on a public stage.”
